Sub-project A08 is run by Prof. Steffi Knorn (Control, TUB). Known biological principles are combined with experimental data from Project Areas A and B to develop suitable mathematical models describing the relation and influence of process parameters for the complete process chain, such as substrate type, fungal growth rate, and the resulting composite material’s properties.
Based on this and available online measurements, soft sensors, i.e., mathematical tools and code, are developed to monitor and estimate relevant process parameters and states that cannot be measured directly online. The insights into fungal growth dynamics and the resulting composite properties are also used to develop and test suitable process control strategies.
Sub-project A08 is carried out in close collaboration with A04 and A07, obtains data on fungal growth and lignocellulose degradation from A01 – A03, and input on substrate availability from A05.
