Sub-project A07 is run by Prof. Peter Neubauer (Bioprocess Engineering, TUB) and Prof. Stefan Junne (Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, AAU). A plug flow bioreactor for the hydrolytic degradation of plant substrates by F. fomentarius is designed.
The bioprocess is developed through investigation of the interaction of F. fomentarius and substrate particles to initiate growth structures and the interaction between process conditions and product features. A special focus is put on the consideration of spatial gradients and suspension recirculation for a better process understanding but also process control.
The research aims to identify which process parameters determine the formation of specific macro- and micromorphological structures, and how this knowledge can be used to achieve a reproducible matrix of fungus and substrate particles in continuous operation.
Sub-project A07 is carried out in close collaboration with A01 – A03, delivers bioprocess data to A08, and delivers input on substrate utilisation to A04 – A06, and A09.
