Sub-project A05 is run by Dr. Hans Gusovius (Process Engineering for Fibre plants, ATB). Regional agricultural biomass as value- and structure-giving substrates for the targeted production of fungal composites are systematically investigated.
Various cultivation, postharvest processing and storage approaches of hemp raw materials are examined to develop innovative pretreatment methods. In particular, the latter is applied to forest biomasses, too. The aim is to understand and improve the mechanical properties of the composite materials through substrate properties. This will create the scientific foundation for a reproducible supply chain for substrates and thus process chain.
In addition, substrate properties are used to model the distribution of their probability of occurrence as a function of the supply process. Sub-project A05 is carried out in close collaboration with A06, A07, and A09, and delivers data on substrate availability and preprocessing to A02 and A08.
